Day1 Arrival in Kathmandu
Upon your arrival in Kathmandu, the bustling capital city of Nepal, you'll be greeted by a representative and transferred to your hotel. Take some time to rest and recover from your journey or explore the nearby surroundings to get a taste of the vibrant local culture.
Day2 Kathmandu Sightseeing and Trek Preparation
Today, you'll embark on a guided sightseeing tour of Kathmandu's UNESCO World Heritage Sites. You'll visit Swayambhunath, also known as the Monkey Temple, with its iconic stupa and panoramic views of the city. Next, you'll explore the ancient Boudhanath Stupa, a significant Buddhist site. Afterward, you'll visit Pashupatinath, one of the holiest Hindu temples in Nepal, located on the banks of the Bagmati River. In the afternoon, you'll have time to prepare for the trek, where you can check your gear, do any necessary shopping, and attend a briefing about the upcoming adventure.
Day3 Kathmandu to Lukla (2,800m/9,184ft) and Phakding (2,652m/8,700ft)
An early morning flight takes you from Kathmandu to Lukla, a small mountain town that serves as the gateway to the Everest region. The flight offers breathtaking views of the Himalayas, and upon arrival in Lukla, you'll meet the rest of your trekking crew. The trek begins with a descent towards Phakding, a charming village situated along the Dudh Koshi River. The trail leads through lush forests, picturesque landscapes, and several suspension bridges, making for a delightful first day of trekking.
Day4 Phakding to Namche Bazaar (3,440m/11,286ft)
Today's trek takes you along the banks of the Dudh Koshi River as you make your way to Namche Bazaar. The trail ascends and descends through rhododendron and pine forests, with occasional glimpses of the mighty Everest in the distance. After crossing the famous Hillary Suspension Bridge, you'll ascend towards Namche Bazaar, a bustling town and the primary trading hub in the Khumbu region.
Day5 Acclimatization Day in Namche Bazaar
Acclimatization is crucial to avoid altitude sickness during the trek, and Namche Bazaar is an ideal place to rest and adapt. Use this day to explore the town, visit the local markets, and interact with the friendly Sherpa people. You can also take a short hike to the nearby Everest View Hotel or the Syangboche Airstrip, which offers stunning panoramic views of Mount Everest and the surrounding peaks.
Day6 Namche Bazaar to Dole (4,200m/13,780ft)
Leaving Namche Bazaar behind, the trail winds through dense forests, offering glimpses of wildlife and picturesque landscapes. You'll pass by small settlements like Phortse Thanga, where you can take a break and enjoy a cup of tea, before continuing towards Dole. The trail ascends gradually, and as you gain altitude, you'll notice the vegetation changing, with juniper and conifer trees becoming more prominent.
Day7 Dole to Machhermo (4,470m/14,663ft)
The trek today continues uphill along the Dudh Koshi River valley, passing through small Himalayan settlements. As you approach Machhermo, the landscape becomes more rugged and dramatic. Machhermo is a tranquil village nestled in the valley, with a beautiful view of the surrounding mountains.
Day8 Machhermo to Gokyo (4,800m/15,744ft)
Today, you'll trek to the stunning Gokyo Valley, home to a series of glacial lakes. The trail ascends steadily, and you'll pass by the first and second Gokyo Lakes before reaching the third lake, Dudh Pokhari (Gokyo Lake). The turquoise waters of the lake against the backdrop of snow-capped peaks create a mesmerizing scene. Gokyo itself is a small village with several lodges that cater to trekkers.
Day9 Gokyo Valley Acclimatization Day
To further acclimatize to the high altitude, you'll spend an extra day in Gokyo. You can choose to hike to Gokyo Ri, a viewpoint located above the village. The hike offers breathtaking views of Mount Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Cho Oyu, and the Ngozumpa Glacier. The landscapes surrounding the Gokyo Lakes are simply awe-inspiring, making this a day well spent soaking in the beauty of the region.
Day10 Gokyo to Thagnak (4,750m/15,584ft)
Leaving Gokyo behind, the trail leads you through the Ngozumpa Glacier, the largest glacier in Nepal. As you cross this glacier, you'll experience a unique and surreal terrain. After descending from the glacier, the trail continues to Thagnak, a small settlement nestled in a valley surrounded by impressive mountains.
Day11 Thagnak to Cho La Pass (5,420m/17,782ft) to Dzongla (4,830m/15,850ft)
Today is a challenging day as you'll be crossing the Cho La Pass. The pass is steep and often snow-covered, so a good level of fitness and proper equipment is essential. However, the effort is rewarded with breathtaking views of mountains like Ama Dablam, Cholatse, and Lobuche East. The descent from the pass leads to Dzongla, a small village with a few tea houses.
Day12 Dzongla to Lobuche (4,910m/16,109ft)
The trail from Dzongla to Lobuche follows a rocky and glacial path. Along the way, you'll pass the beautiful Chola Tsho Lake and enjoy views of Lobuche Peak and Pumori. Lobuche is a popular stop for trekkers heading to Everest Base Camp, and you'll find several lodges and teahouses here.
Day13 Lobuche to Everest Base Camp (5,365m/17,601ft) and Gorak Shep (5,170m/16,961ft)
Today is a highlight of the trek as you make your way to Everest Base Camp. The trail follows the Khumbu Glacier, and the views of the Khumbu Icefall are nothing short of spectacular. Upon reaching Base Camp, you'll be in the heart of the Everest climbing expeditions. After spending some time soaking in the atmosphere, you'll trek back to Gorak Shep for the night.
Day14 Gorak Shep to Kala Patthar (5,545m/18,192ft) and Pheriche (4,240m/13,910ft)
In the early morning, you'll hike to Kala Patthar, one of the best viewpoints in the region. From the top of Kala Patthar, you'll witness a breathtaking sunrise over Mount Everest and other surrounding peaks. After enjoying the mesmerizing views, you'll descend to Pheriche, a small village where you'll spend the night.
Day15 Pheriche to Namche Bazaar
The return journey begins as you trek back to Namche Bazaar, retracing your steps through beautiful landscapes. The descent allows you to take in the scenery from a different perspective, and you may encounter fellow trekkers coming up to Everest Base Camp.
Day16 Namche Bazaar to Lukla
Today, you'll continue the descent towards Lukla, where your trek began. The trail passes through lush forests, and the journey allows for ample time to reflect on the incredible experiences and achievements of the past days.
Day17 Fly from Lukla to Kathmandu
An early morning flight takes you back to Kathmandu. Upon arrival in the city, you can spend the day at leisure, either relaxing at your hotel or exploring more of Kathmandu's cultural sites and markets.
Day18 Reserve Day for Contingency
A buffer day is included in the itinerary to account for potential flight cancellations or delays due to weather conditions. This day provides some flexibility in case of unforeseen circumstances and ensures you have ample time to catch your international flight from Kathmandu.
Day19 Departure from Kathmandu
Your Everest Base Camp with Gokyo Lakes Trek comes to an end. You'll be transferred to the airport for your departure from Kathmandu. Take with you unforgettable memories of the breathtaking Himalayan landscapes and the warm hospitality of the Sherpa people.

How long is the combined EBC + Gokyo trek?
Most circuits are 14–17 days depending on flights, rest days and whether you cross Cho La. This sample is 15 days.
Is Cho La pass necessary?
No — Cho La offers a spectacular loop but is technical and exposed. Many itineraries skip the pass and still include both EBC and Gokyo via safer linking trails.
Can I take a helicopter at the end?
Yes, helicopter returns from Gorak Shep / Lobuche to Kathmandu are possible as upgrades — cost varies widely based on whether seats are shared or private and on weather/operational factors.
